James Allardice was a master of the magic of sherry cask maturation. The distillery he founded, Glendronach, still maintains that tradition to this day by ageing its whiskies in the finest sherry casks from Spain. It’s up to the Master Blender Rachel Barrie to rummage through the Glendronach warehouses to find the stand out barrels for the Cask Bottling series. What a fun job that must be, especially since there are whiskies ageing in those warehouses that stretch back to the 1960s! Glendronach 29 Years Old Cask Bottling 1992 Cask #71 came from one of those special casks. Oloroso Sherry Butt No. 71 to be exact. The whisky in there was distilled back in 1992 and aged for 29 years before being bottled up in 2021 for this limited run bottling. It only produced 504 bottles so this is a rare gem indeed! It has a nose of toffee, plum, pears and grapes with notes of leather and nuts. The palate shows raisins, cherry, chocolate and a hint of mango.
